Allerg-eeez! Gluten-Free Beauty
I go one day without carbs and I’m a cray cray cookie! My heart (and stomach) goes out to those who suffer from gluten allergies – roughly 1% of the population, according to The Week. I know there are now gluten-free foods aplenty, but they’re not quite the same as the gluten-laden carbs of yesteryear.
If you have made the sacrifice to go gluten-free with your diet, you might want to consider doing the same with your cosmetics. Some lipsticks and lip glosses contain “wheat-germ extract, barley extract, wheat proteins, and oat kernel flour” (Women’s Health, April 2013) that could be ingested. The research on this is fuzzy, but it’s worth it if it works so check your labels!
As a side note, if you suffer from Celiac Disease, you also owe it to yourself to check out The Celiac Diva, a gluten-free lifestyle blog. I came across it when I was researching this blog post and it’s fabulous! Click here for their list of gluten-free cosmetics.
