A New Leaf: Kale and Spinach Smoothies
Team gloss48 is trying to get a bit more green down our collective gullet. We were just comparing vitamin-packed smoothie recipes and thought we would share.
Jodi’s blend is dairy-free and chock full o’ fresh veggies. Throw the ingredients in a blender in the following order:
1/2 cup green grapes
1 orange peeled, halved, seeded
1/2 lemon, peeled, seeded
1/2 green apple, seeded
1 cup kale, spine removed
1 cup romaine lettuce (or other leafy green)
1 cup parsley leaves
1 cup frozen pineapple chunks
2 cups ice cubes
Not surprisingly, my spinach smoothie of choice is (1) effortless and (2) full of stuff I always have on hand. Easy peasy.
I use a stick blender for my smoothies (and margaritas). We received it as a wedding gift and it sat, unopened, for about a year. Now it is my favorite appliance! It is super easy to use and clean!
I throw the following into a cup and blend away:
2 handfuls of baby spinach
1/2 cup greek yogurt
1/2 cup frozen blueberries
1/2 cup apple juice
1/2 teaspoon of ginger (I’m sure fresh ginger is amazeballs, but mine comes straight out of a jar.)
Jill’s smoothie recipe is similar to mine, but she substitutes a scoop of banana nut protein powder in place of the banana. She also does hundreds of burpees, a punishing workout, everyday. I’m down with the green smoothies, but I’m not so sure about the burpees.
What’s your favorite smoothie recipe?
