Guest Post: Cold Weather Skincare by Marianne Zullas of MZ Skincare

October 29, 2012

As fall sets in and winter looms, if you live in a cold climate, you just know that your skin is going to start to rebel big time. We asked one of our guest glossists, Marianne Zullas, what she recommends for drab fall / winter skin.

Schedule a facial

At MZ Skincare, we get especially busy during the winter months – reversing sun-damage, preventing wrinkles, professional exfoliation with microdermabrasion, exercising the muscles of the face with micro-current.  To me, however, a facial is a winter must-have treatment.  You will notice a big improvement with your skin after a professional facial. The harsh effects of the cold weather will be less dramatic on your face and the facial will help balance the skin so it appears healthier overall.  Additionally, professional exfoliation will help soothing lotions penetrate into the skin.  Since we tend to get lazy during the winter, I also recommend seeking treatments that include ultra-hydrating masks, oxygen infusion and a lot of massage to keep your skin glowing all season long.

Incorporate Corrector Treatments into Skincare Routine

As we are inside more and less exposed to sunlight, utilize this time of the year to correct skin imperfections with treatments that target, pigmentation, lines, wrinkles and scars.  These treatments include daily or weekly Retinol use, chemical peel treatments and laser treatments.

At-Home Spa Treatment

If a facial or other skincare treatments are not in the budget, your skin will see wonderful benefits from at-home treatments using natural ingredients.  A honey mask for example is extremely hydrating and nourishing. Find the best honey in town and apply to your skin.  Leave it on for 10 minutes and you’ll notice how happy and hydrated your skin looks.

During the winter, you should look for the following key ingredients in skincare products

  • Vitamin C
  • Chamomile
  • Aloe Vera
  • Essential oils
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Bisabolol
  • Squalene

Here is roundup up of some of my favorite winter products from StarFlower Essentials and PCA Skin (Physician Choice of Arizona):

Skin Dance Moisturizer

An essential and vital skin food that restores balance and resiliency. It has Beta Carotene, a known antioxidant, Primrose Oil to support collagen and Squalene to soothe and protect.

Royal Rose Face Mask

Raw honey and Bulgarian Rose Otto – amazing for hydration, plumps and softens the skin while refining the texture.

Raw Chocolate Exfoliant Mask

Raw cacao is one of the most powerful antioxidants in the world. It removes dead skin as it restores wrinkles and pore size.

Anti- Redness Serum

For those who tend to look red and blotchy from the cold wind, this is a unique serum is for people with sensitive skin and rosacea. Ingredients such as Aldavine and Bisabolol are known for making sure that we keep the right amount of water inside our cells.

Retinol renewal

Let’s start reversing those lines! I love this retinol because it is very soothing on the skin while working to replenish vital moisture components and antioxidants.

Apres Peel Hydrating Balm

Excellent choice for normal to dry skin. When you go skiing this product should be in your suitcase. It is a must for any skin type – a rich moisturizer that gives your skin a nice feeling without being too heavy.
