Mitt Romney Tan
Mitt Romney may be taking hits of the Mystic Tan. Let’s hope he didn’t inhale. (Source:

I’m Laura B. and I approved this completely a-political message!

All politics aside, I feel that it is my duty as a beauty blogger to weigh in on the debate that is rocking the political/beauty world: Mitt Romney’s tan – from the beach or the bottle?

According to his makeup artist, Lazz Rodriguez, “It was definitely a real tan.” (  However, in my humble opinion, the presidential candidate is looking a bit more Tropicana than Tropic Sun these days.

I’m not about to ask the former Governor of my fair state to release his 2011 tan lines, but I do have some self tanning tips for him (and others) should the rumors prove true:

1. Pick the right product.  I have found at least a couple of self tanners that do not leave an orange hue.  Beautisol and St. Tropez products feature a cooler bronze/brown tint that counteracts the Oompa Loompa effect.

2.  To be safe, choose a self tanner that is one shade darker than your regular skin tone.  Not fifty shades.  If you have fair skin, reach for a medium self tanner rather than trying to go dark.

3.  Plan ahead.  Build your self tan gradually over 2-3 days rather than trying to go from zero to Bob Barker.  Self tanner should last about 4 days so, if you start 3 days before your big event, it will allow you to build your tan to the right level and fix any streaks.

Tell us about your self tan gaffes!  We’ve all been there!

He’s not just looking “Tropicana”… he’s looking “Oompa Loompa”.
